About Me:
Hello, my name is Matt Kuehl. I live in Oak Park, Illinois, near Chicago, and I just got married last October. That's my wife Diana and I above on our honeymoon in Italy. My background is in civil engineering, but I’ve been passionate about photography since I got my first SLR camera more than 20 years ago.
I’ve shot for newspapers, freelanced for private organizations and assisted professional photographers. In 2005 I shot my first solo wedding, and in 2008 I opened Kuehl Studios, Inc. In my first year, I shot over 20 weddings, in addition to several other events and portrait sittings. In 2009 I shot another 30 and had a fashion shoot featured in Shape Magazine. 2010 is shaping up to be another good year for Kuehl Studios.
My style is a contemporary blend of candid photojournalism and traditional portraiture. I try my best to achieve a natural look in my pictures by capturing the real moments and subtle details that make your special day unique and memorable. I look for people’s genuine character, without contriving poses or forcing pretentious expressions, and I think it shows in my work.
I especially love shooting weddings because they are such a great venue for candid documentary work. I can be fly on the wall, without people noticing me while I capture all the details and emotions as I tell a story through pictures.

My daughter's wedding pics are posted and to say they are lovely is the understatement of the century. Matt caught the beauty and innocence of their youth. Dear Matt: Thank you so much for the outstanding work you did for us! Everyone who has seen our wedding photos are highly impressed. We went with you because we liked your past work, and you fit into our budget. Thank you for being so flexible and quick! Our photos were online five days after the wedding! My good friend was married in July, and she is STILL waiting for her prints (now March). If we were to do it all over again, we'd still pick you as a photographer.

I found Matt online and he responded quickly and courteously to meeting with us to discuss wedding photo options. Matt is personable and made every effort to ask about our wedding and what we were looking for in order to capture the event. Matt worked really well with our guests and got some great pre-, during and post-wedding pictures. They were up on the web quickly and our guests got to enjoy them just a week after the wedding. Very happy with the quality and price and we wish we could have brought him to South Africa for our second wedding!

Matt was great to work with, and the pictures he took were amazing! Better yet, we had all our edited proofs online within just over a week of our wedding. Matt worked really well with a large diverse crowd of people and managed to really capture the feelings of the day. He was great to work with and even did some additional editing (color/black & white work) for us.

Matt did an absolutely fantastic job for our daughters baptism. He was professional, completely invinsible but took the most beautiful, photojournalistic shots of her and her various emotions and expressions throughout her big day. We are so happy with his work and so is all our family and friends. We highly recommend him and wish he was around when we got married. Definitely plan to have him take pictures at her first b-day party.

Our photos are gorgeous! Matt was flexible with our time and location, really patient with my husband and I who were not exactly experts at modeling, and he got the most beautiful candid real moments. He does a great job capturing movement, laughter, and just getting the best moments on film. I've had so many guest tell me they are some of the best photos they've seen. He went to the location before the event to check out shots/lighting, they were there early set up and ready to go, it was just a huge part of the wedding day that I didn't have to worry about at all. They were really reasonably priced, and I can't imagine better photos. I recommend them as highly as possible to anyone.
